Lofoten winter trip
A magical journey through beautiful winter landscapes with the motorhome
In February 2024, I set out on a magical winter journey alone with my Hymer ML-T motorhome. The goal was to explore nature and photograph the beautiful landscapes of northern Norway. The journey took me through snow-covered forests, over majestic mountains and to some of the most beautiful beaches I have ever experienced.
The journey north
I started my journey in Västerås and drove via Skuleberget, Jokkmokk and Abisko. Driving through these wintry landscapes was an experience in itself – the frozen lakes and snow-capped mountains created a sense of stillness and calm. The walls offered a challenging surface with occasional pure ice, snow storms and really cold temperatures. Despite that, it was relatively good to drive only with all-weather off-road tires.
Lofoten
Once you arrive in Lofoten, you are greeted by breathtaking views everywhere. Since it was February, the days were quite short and relatively dark, but with a magically beautiful light.
The beaches of Lofoten
When I arrived in Lofoten, I was greeted by dramatic coastlines and beautiful beaches. Storsandnes, Skagsanden, and Haukland Beach were the highlights of the trip. Each beach had its own unique beauty – from Storsandne's calm atmosphere to Haukland Beach's white sand and turquoise waters that gave the illusion of the tropics in the middle of winter.

The villages of Lofoten
I also visited charming villages such as Svolvaer, Henningsvaer, Nusfjord and Hamnoy. These small communities, with their traditional red fishing huts and dramatic scenery, offered countless opportunities for photography and reflection.

The way home
On the way home I took a different route and drove over Saltfjellet, over Steinfjellet and through the impressive Steinfjell tunnel, and then on via Strömsund. Each new place offered new views and reminded me of the varied beauty of the Nordic region.
Summary
This winter trip through the fantastic Nordic landscape was an experience I will never forget. Traveling alone gave me time to really take in the stillness and beauty of nature, and with the camera in hand I was able to capture all those unforgettable moments. I returned home to Västerås with memory cards full of pictures and a heart full of memories, ready for the next adventure. Reproducing this experience in picture and video is difficult but I have made an attempt in the video on Youtube below which you can see by clicking on the picture.
